Guest speaker announced for next meeting.
SFCCA President David Meininger is pleased to announce that Greg St. James will be the guest speaker for the Association’s January 13th, 2014 meeting.
Greg St. James has been the program manager of Montgomery County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) since 2007. In that time Montgomery County CERT has become a recognized leader in program innovations including regional CERT conferences, training with military units, and outreach events like Storm Camp.
In addition, Mr. St. James has been an EMT with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department since 2003. He has a background in broadcasting and advertising, and can be heard on air at CSPAN television. Greg moved to Montgomery County from Detroit, Michigan in 2000.
Mr. St. James will speak about Emergency Preparedness for families. Thanks to Jim Janssen for making the arrangements for our speaker.

Annual Tree Lighting – Saturday, Dec. 7
Just wanted to invite everyone to the annual Holiday Tree Lighting next Saturday, at 5pm, on the corner of Lanark Way and Rogart Road. The 400 block of Lanark will be closed to traffic starting at 2pm to prepare, and will remain closed until 7pm so neighbors can safely attend the event.
This year’s Lighting will be in honor of Mr. Ric Nelson, a 39-year resident of SFC who passed away suddenly in January. Mr. Nelson celebrated the Tree Lighting with all of us last year and commented to me that it was one of his favorite things to do. This memory is a wonderful reminder of the spirit of community during the holidays—and all year long.
Thanks to the Wilson Family for hosting us and providing us with such a great tradition.

Community Day Postponed
Community Day Manager Jeanne Berman and SFCCA President David Meininger have decided to postpone the Community Day event from October 19, 2013 to May, 2014 in order to have more time and opportunity to gather more volunteers and plan for this event.
SFCCA is thankful for those volunteers that have agreed to take various coordinator/manager roles. Still needed are more volunteers to assist in this project. Keep your eyes open for more information about volunteer opportunities to be posted closer to the May, 2014 date.

Community Day 2013 needs your help!
Save the date for the South Four Corners’ Community Day, October 19, 2013 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Margaret Schweinhaught Center.
SFCCA needs volunteers for this event that will feature a potluck meal, games, music, and fun. In fact, if there are not enough volunteers signed up to help by Sept. 11, the event may have to be cancelled.
The Community Day planners are still looking to fill jobs in the following areas:
– Advertising Manager (in charge of signs, flyers, and emailing info to SFCCA webmaster),
– Set-up and Clean-up Helpers,
– Music Coordinator and Helpers (line up musical talent to perform and supervise P.A. system),
– Children’s Activities Coordinator and helpers,
– Donation Solicitors (approaching and coordinating the donation of food, beverages, and prizes for the event) and
– Prize Coordinator for children’s activities and raffle.
If you have skills such as face painting, making balloon animals, performing magic tricks, or other skills that would be fun for Community Day, please consider volunteering to help with the children activities.
Please email David Meininger at jdavidm@juno.com or Jeanne Berman at jzberman8@gmail.com if you’d like to volunteer or help out. Your contribution to this event will make it a success and you’ll be part of what makes our neighborhood so special.
