About Us

We are the South Four Corners Strong Committee organized to help each other in this amazing neighborhood of ours. We come together as a community to support one another, whether we are currently feeling strong and able to help or feeling stressed and overwhelmed and could use some assistance.  SFC STRONG means that together we are a resilient community.

Whether you have lived in South Four Corners for months, years, or decades, we all recognize that we are a neighborhood where neighbors care about each other. We share suggestions for services and local businesses with each other where we’ve had positive experiences, as well as share items that we’re ready to pass along to another user (or request items we need!)  through the listserv and the “Buy Nothing” Facebook group.  Additionally, we gather for community activities like the Porch Fest, Halloween Parade, and Holiday Market organized by our awesome neighbors, and we communicate in a friendly and fair way when discussing complicated topics that affect our community.

Most recently, we recognized that many of our neighbors may be feeling additional stress due to the current environment, so a few of us are meet to identify ways we can help each other. We want to both support and be available to our neighbors to help with practical things as well as the less tangible, including connections to other resources. We started this discussion around the Federal employees’ current struggles, but these resources are intended for all of our neighbors, regardless of the reason for their stress.

Watch for SFC Strong posts on the listserv and this site.

Community Picnic May 17

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the May 17 picnic! Ice cream and fun and community support was enjoyed by all.

Do You Need Assistance?

We created a way that our neighbors could let us know how your neighbors can help.  Please fill out this form if you find yourself needing assistance.  Our goal is to connect neighbors to help each other and to match the two parties in a private and respectful manner.

Once you complete this form, a committee member will review it and put together a weekly email to the SFCCA list serve asking our neighbors if they are able to help but no names or identifying information will be mentioned, something like “A neighbor in SFC is looking for someone to help with their dog during the day.”

Neighbors who can help will reply on the list serve and then you’ll have the opportunity to contact them and proceed however you are comfortable.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors with Food

We have a program in SFC for neighbors who want to share food with neighbors who need it run by neighbor Sue Clark and volunteers.

We accept everything from unwanted vegetables and party leftovers to meat bones for soup. Depending upon what it is, it either goes directly to neighbors who need it, or if it’s a larger quantity, to Shepherd’s Table (they feed folks in downtown Silver Spring). Certain items get turned into soup that is given to our neighbors. You can designate where you want your food to go if you like.

Food can be dropped off at 9911 Rogart Road 7 days a week, or you can request a pickup at suejohnsonclark@gmail.com

If you need food help, or know someone nearby who does, contact Sue confidentially at suejohnsonclark@gmail.com.

Si necesita ayuda alimentaria o conoce a alguien cercano que la necesite, comuniquese con Sue de forma confidencial a suejohnsonclark@gmail.com.

Miscellaneous Resources or Offers

Neighborhood resources

SFC Lending Library and Skillshare – Use the list to offer or find items to borrow or lend and skills or services to share. Our goal is that everything on this list is free. Please feel free to add items or services you are willing to share with neighbors.

The Lending Library is an opportunity to share resources (like a power washer or other tools).

The Skillshare is an opportunity to share services or skills neighbor-to-neighbor (like offering to help with reviewing resumes and cover letters and LinkedIn pages; and offering to help neighbors find wellness and mental health resources).

Community Corkboard – offering your Services for a fee or recommendation of a high-quality vendor

Buy Nothing South Four Corners Facebook Group: If you’re looking for a way to connect with neighbors, consider joining our local Buy Nothing group. It is a super cooperative neighborhood group where you can receive goods and services that you need, like clothing or a ride to the mechanic, and offer goods and services to neighbors who might need them. It’s much more about building community than it is exchanging items.
